Read OriginalThe author investigates the perceived slowness of modern computers by using a high-speed camera to measure input latency (keypress to character display) across devices from 1977 to 2017. Results show that the fastest machines are ancient, and while high-end modern gaming rigs are competitive, typical modern computers have significantly higher latency than machines from the late 1970s and early 1980s.
